Music at Port Perry United Church
Music plays an important part in our faith life at Port Perry.
Week after week, Port Perry’s “one-of-a-kind” choir provides inspirational musical leadership in our worship services. Directed by Joan Bretney, our SATB (four-part) choir of over 30 members sings traditional as well as contemporary pieces. Joan Bretney serves as our choir director, while Karen Durward is our accompanist. A Sunday afternoon in December finds the church full, as the community gathers to enjoy Choralfest; a performance of spiritual and secular Christmas music. Each year the choir hosts the Grand Event; a feast of excellent choral music both spiritual and secular. Choir rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
NEW MEMBERS are always warmly WELCOMED!!!!
Our junior choir (grades 1 to 6) participates regularly in worship. Rehearsals take place in the lounge after Sunday morning worship under the direction of Julie Renwick and accompanist Leanne Kerr.
Our girls choir (grades 7 to 12) participates regularly in worship. Rehearsals take place in the Choir room after Sunday morning worship, under the direction of our organist Joan Bretney.
Church Concert Band
Port Perry United Church has a multi-generational church concert band that participates in worship at least twice a year. Teens grade 8 and up and adults are welcome to participate. You need to be able to provide your own instrument. The church concert band is directed by retired high school music teacher Charles White.
